As a native speaker of English and Mandarin Chinese, Ms. Ho’s heightened appreciation and mastery of two disparate languages, coupled with her vast legal expertise, allows her to be a precise, effective communicator and advocate for her clients. Growing up as a second-generation Chinese-American woman, Jane Ho takes particular pride and pleasure in giving voice to the under-privileged, the under-represented, and the underdog. In her 18 years experience in the field of law, Ms. Ho represented numerous clients in the following areas: personal injury, immigration, domestic relations, business transactions, civil and criminal cases. Some of Ms. Ho’s noteworthy cases: successfully contested guardianship against the Montgomery County municipal government over a vulnerable, elderly lady that the government placed in a public nursing home where she was abused and neglected, and returned her to the guardianship and care of her daughter; successfully assisted an impoverished, immigrant client in obtaining U.S. permanent residency under the Violence Against Women’s Act, who was physically and mentally abused by her U.S. citizen spouse and obtained divorce and alimony from her abuser; successfully obtained political asylum for a refugee client, his wife and three children who fled from China for violating the one-child policy; successfully obtained political asylum for a client and his family who was jailed and beaten for observing religious practices that were not condoned by the Chinese government; successfully obtained compensation for a client who suffered severe, extensive burn wounds to fifty percent of his entire body as a result of a propane gas explosion; successfully obtained compensation against a major airline carrier for a client who suffered near-fatal anaphylactic shock after eating the food served on a flight to Asia. Prior to starting her own law practice, Ms. Ho’s experience extended to the Pacific Rim, where she was a former associate of Perkins Coie in Taipei, Taiwan. While there, Ms. Ho conducted corporate transactional work in banking, finance, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment and infrastructure projects. Ms. Ho later joined the Washington, D.C. office of Piper, Marbury, Rudnick & Wolfe LLP, where she practiced franchise and distribution law. In the fall of 2000, Ms. Ho decided to leave the large law firm arena and bring professional, legal representation to clients in her own law practice. Native to the Washington Metropolitan area, Ms. Ho was born in Bethesda, Maryland. She graduated second in her class from Dulaney High School in Baltimore County, and received numerous awards and commendations including the Ronald Reagan Presidential Academic Fitness Award, Robert C. Byrd Scholarship, and Maryland State Scholarship Board Distinguished Scholar Merit Scholarship. She exhibited a strong affinity for her hometown when she declined Stanford University after being accepted out of over 15,700 applicants to the 1992 undergraduate class, and chose instead to attend the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (B.S.F.S.) from Georgetown University in 1992, Ms. Ho attended law school at American University, Washington College of Law where she received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1995. Ms. Ho was admitted to the Bar of Maryland in 1996, the Bar of the District of Columbia in 1998, the Bar of California in 2002, and the Bar of Virginia in 2003. Ms. Jane Ho is admitted to practice before the highest courts in the states of Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and California, as well as the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and the Central District of California.
