Best Day Trips from Seattle

Seattle is such a vibrant city, but there are plenty of great day trips to take advantage of. Having lived here for years as a Chinese American, I want to share some personal favorites for weekend getaways.

1. Vancouver

Just about a two-hour drive north, Vancouver is perfect for a relaxed weekend. You can take I-5 straight there or opt for the Amtrak train.

  • **Cost**: If you drive, expect to pay around $6-$8 to cross the border, plus parking costs; train tickets are around $40.
  • **Food**: In Vancouver, don't miss the seafood restaurants in Chinatown, like **Jade Seafood**, where you can expect to spend about $30-$50 per person.

  • I love strolling through Stanley Park, especially in the fall when the leaves change colors—it's absolutely stunning.

    2. Mount Rainier National Park

Mount Rainier is a symbol of Washington State and is about a two-hour drive from the city. The park offers countless hiking and photography opportunities.

  • **Cost**: The entrance fee is $30, which covers a vehicle of up to 5 people. If you plan to camp, it's best to reserve in advance based on the season.
  • **Activities**: In spring and summer, hiking is a must, while in fall and winter, you can enjoy skiing and snowshoeing.

  • Be sure to bring water and snacks; the views along the way are worth stopping for pictures!

    3. Olympic National Park

About a two-hour drive from Seattle, you can also reach it via ferry. This park is a paradise for nature lovers.

  • **Cost**: The entrance fee is again $30, making it very budget-friendly for a group.
  • **Sightseeing**: Here, you can enjoy beaches, rainforests, and mountains; some spots even have wildlife.

  • I particularly love Rialto Beach, where the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks is incredibly soothing.

    4. Snoqualmie Falls

This stunning destination is only about a 30-minute drive from Seattle, perfect for a quick trip.

  • **Cost**: It's free to enter, and parking is usually around $5.
  • **Activities**: You can admire the falls from the viewing platform, and there are many trails nearby for walking.

  • The photos you take here are always a hit with friends, especially in the morning mist that adds a magical touch.
