Details
San Francisco Travel: A Guide to the Golden Gate Bridge Attractions. The Golden Gate Bridge was built in 1937, with a total length of about 2.7 kilometers. There are two 227-meter-high towers at both ends of the bridge. It is one of the largest single-hole suspension bridges in the world and is regarded as a symbol of San Francisco. During the gold rush, the bridge served as a gateway to the gold mines, hence the name "Golden Gate Bridge." The Golden Gate Bridge is a pioneering work in bridge architecture. The orange bridge of the Golden Gate Bridge has steel columns standing at both ends, connected by thick steel cables. The midpoint of the steel cables droops, almost close to the bridge body. The steel cables and the bridge body are connected with thin steel ropes. Therefore, it does not use the piers to support the bridge body, but uses the huge pulling force generated by the arc-shaped suspenders on both sides of the bridge to lift the heavy bridge high. The entire Golden Gate Bridge looks simple and majestic. The designer of the Golden Gate Bridge was engineer Strauss. His bronze statue was placed beside the bridge to commemorate his contribution to the United States. The bridge took a total of four and a half years from groundbreaking to completion and cost more than US$35 million. The project was quite extensive. Today, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the busiest bridges in the world, with approximately 100,000 vehicles crossing it every day. There are observation decks and parking lots at both ends of the bridge facing the bay. There are about 1.2 kilometers of walking paths on both sides of the bridge for pedestrians and bicycles. The round trip takes an hour. Tickets Bridge toll: $6 (one-way toll south to San Francisco) The electronic toll FasTrak is $5.
